What is ungripped?

Ungripped is a mobile app for the iOS platform, and soon for Android devices, based upon the idea that alternating bilateral stimulation can relieve stress.

The back-and-forth stimulation provided by the application is not soothing by itself, but when someone applies it to the negative feeling, and also preferably the thought at the same time, it seems to allow them to become "ungripped" by the pressure of negative emotion.

The alternating tones seem to provide relief from stress, anxiety, fear, anger, sadness. This doesn't change minds or memories, but it seems to unhook from negative feelings and provide some freedom to be more fully present in the here and now.
